opening tip… Prince George's heads to Hagerstown on Wednesday for its final road regular season contest of the season. The Owls will play its final two games of the regular season at Novak Field House. The tilt against the Hawks is key for Prince George's Maryland JUCO Tournament hopes with a win giving the Owls the edge in what could end with a tiebreaker with Hagerstown to decide who is in the tournament. Hagerstown defeated Prince George's last season in Largo.
last time out… Prince George's Community College lost in overtime 95-91 to the College of Southern Maryland on Sunday. Mykal Johnson paced the Owls with 20 points and 10 rebounds. The sophomore shot 5-for-10 from the floor, 1 of 3 from behind the arc and 9 of 12 from the free throw line. Johnson reached 20 points for the 10th time this season, the second-straight game and fourth time in the last six tilts. He also notched his sixth double-double in his last seven games and seven of his career. For the second-straight contest, freshman Shiloh Beale notched a career-high after posting 19 points on Sunday afternoon. Beale registered a then career-best 18 points against Baltimore City on Friday. The freshman has scored double figures five times in 2017-18 and three times in the last five tilts. He also added five rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block. Kennith Ford recorded 15 points while James Hagins tallied 12 points and 10 rebounds in the loss. Ford has posted double figures in 19 of the 22 games this season while Hagins reached double figures for the 11th time this season and his sixth double-double on the year. AJ Perdomo added a career-high eight points.
next time on the hardwood… Prince George's returns to Novak Field House for its final two contests against CCBC Dundalk on Friday and Harford (Feb. 7).
making the maryland juco tournament… Prince George's is hosting the Maryland JUCO Tournament on Feb. 15-18 and the Owls hope to defend their tournament title. Coming into the tilt at Hagerstown on Wednesday, the Largo team sits two games in the loss column behind Garrett for eighth place in the league. Southern Maryland and Howard are a half game ahead the Owls at 4-6.

now that's a career day… Sophomore Shiloh Beale notched a career-high 19 points at Southern Maryland on Jan. 28. Sophomore Brian Ferguson scored a career-high 11 points against Frederick on Jan. 24. Sophomore Kennith Ford has posted a career-high 26 points twice this season after reaching the mark against Cecil on Nov. 29 and again against Northern Virginia on Jan. 22. Ford has also grabbed a personal-best 10 boards twice this season after posting 10 caroms against Butler County on Nov. 17 and against the Nighthawks on Jan. 22. Sophomore James Hagins matched his career high of 23 points against Howard on Jan. 17 after posting a collegiate-best 23 points against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6. The sophomore also posted a career-high 16 caroms against the Dragons. Sophomore Mykal Johnson dished out a career-high 10 assists on his way to his first collegiate triple-double while sophomore Gus Stone hauled in 10 rebounds on his way to his first career double-double in the contest against Garrett on Jan. 13. Johnson grabbed a career-best 15 boards against Dragons. Stone also registered a career-best 33 points against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6. Sophomore Paul Golder notched a Prince George's high of 22 points against Anne Arundel on Jan. 5. Golder registered a career-best 23 points twice last season at another junior college. Freshman Darren Rivers registered a career-best eight points and 13 rebounds against Potomac State on Dec. 2. Sophomore Tavon Ngangum (12 points) had a Prince George's highs against Allegany College of Maryland on Nov. 15.
the point is double figures… Sophomore Mykal Johnson has posted double figures in 48 of his 53 career games including 22 games this season. Sophomore Gus Stone has posted 34 10+ games in his career including 19 of 22 tilts this season. Sophomore Kennith Ford has 34 career double-figure point games including 18 this season while sophomore James Hagins has 13 double-figure games in his career including 11 this season. Freshman Shiloh Beale has five double-figure point performances this season. Sophomore Tavon Ngangum has two 10+ games in an Owl uniform and fellow sophomores Brian Ferguson and Paul Golder each have one.
20-20 vision… Sophomore Mykal Johnson has scored 20 points in a game 22 times and 30 points three in his career, including eight times this season. Sophomore Gus Stone has 20 20-point performances and reached 30 points in a game twice this season. Stone has scored at least 20 points in 14 games this season. Sophomore Kennith Ford has four career 20-point games on his resume including three this season while sophomore James Hagins posted 20 points twice this season with a pair of 23-point outburst. Sophomore Paul Golder reached 20 points for the first time in his Owls career against Anne Arundel on Jan. 5.
on the boards… Sophomore James Hagins has grabbed double figures in rebounds 13 times in his career including 11 times this season. Sophomore Mykal Johnson has hauled in 10+ rebounds seven times this season and freshman Darren Rivers has posted 10 caroms in a game twice this season while sophomore Kennith Ford has three double-figure rebound contest this season.
the dish… Sophomore Mykal Johnson became the first Owl player to register 10 assists in a game since Alex Morales handed out 13 assists against Allegany (Md.) on Jan. 13, 2017 when Johnson recorded 10 dimes against Garrett on Jan. 13, 2018. Johnson has handed out five or more assists four times this season and five times in his career. Sophomore Gus Stone has five 5+ assist games, including tilts with seven, eight and nine assists this season. Freshman Shiloh Beale has two six assists games this season and sophomore Tavon Ngangum has two games with at least five helpers on the year. Sophomore Kennith Ford has one five assist tilt in 2017-18.
double trouble… Sophomore James Hagins has posted eight double-doubles including turning the trick six times this season. Sophomore Mykal Johnson has seven double-doubles this season including six since the New Year hit. Sophomore Kennith Ford has turned the trick three times and fellow sophomore Gus Stone has one double-double this season.
triple trouble… Sophomore Mykal Johnson recorded a triple-double against Garrett after registering 21 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists on Jan. 13. The 10 assists were a career best while the sophomore had two previous double-doubles before his triple threat against the Lakers.
nice to see you again… Sophomore Gus Stone has returned to the Owls for the 2017-18 season after playing in 2016-17. Stone ranked second on the team in his freshman campaign with 14.8 points per game and posted 20 double-figure performances including 11 games with 20 points or more.
welcome to the perch… Along with welcoming back Gus Stone, head coach Brian Johnson has added sophomores Paul Golder, Tavon Ngangum and Brian Ferguson, and freshmen Shiloh Beale, Darren Rivers, Bryon Scriber and AJ Perdomo to the team in 2017-18.
that's gold, jerry, gold… Prince George's is celebrating its 50th Anniversary of Prince George's Athletics in 2017-18. Prince George's unveiled gold uniforms for men's soccer against Cecil on Sept. 15 as part of the 50th Anniversary of Prince George's Athletics, A Celebration of the Past, Present, And Future. The men's and women's basketball teams unveiled their gold jerseys for the doubleheader against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6 and will be wearing them for select games the rest of the season.
hosting maryland juco tournament… Prince George's will be hosting the Maryland JUCO Tournament for both men's and women's basketball on Feb. 23-25. The top eight teams on both the men's and women's side in the league will fight for Maryland Junior College pride.
men's basketball tradition… The men's basketball team has won the Maryland JUCO Tournament four times (1971-72, 1979-80, 1980-81, 2016-17) and the NJCAA Region XX crown seven times (1990-91, 1992-93, 2007-08, 2011-12, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16).
about the coach… Head coach Brian Johnson begins his second season as the men's basketball head coach. He led the Owls to a 21-9 record last season, to the Maryland JUCO Tournament title and to the NJCAA Region XX Division III title game. The 21 wins marked the first 20-win season since 2013-14. Johnson was inducted into his high school (Mount St. Joseph) hall of fame in the fall of 2017. The Owls are 33-19 under Johnson in his two seasons at the helm.
