LARGO, Md. – Sophomore Mykal Johnson (Seat Pleasant, Md./Charles H. Flowers), a member of the Prince George's Community College men's basketball team, has been named to the All-Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) first team announced by the league on Wednesday. Sophomore Gus Stone (Baltimore, Md./North County) earned an All-MD JUCO second-team nod.
Johnson, a 6-4 guard, ranks ninth in the league with 17.1 points per game. The sophomore has posted double figures in 26 of the 27 games this season including 11 games with at least 20 points and a 30-point performance against Chesapeake College on Dec. 14. Johnson has also registered double figures in rebounds eight times this season for eight double-doubles. The Seat Pleasant, Md., native also registered a triple-double with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against Garrett College on Jan. 13.
For his career, Johnson is seven points shy of the 1,000-point plateau going into the Owls game against Westmoreland County Community College on Saturday. He has posted double figures in points in 52 of 57 career games including 23 games with at least 20 points and three 30-point performances. He posted a career-high 36 points against Howard Community College on Jan. 25, 2017.
Stone ranks sixth in the league with 18.1 points per game. Stone has posted double figures in points 21 times this season including 14 games with at least 20 points and two 30-point performances. He notched a career-high 33 points against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6. He also recorded 32 points and 10 rebounds for his first collegiate double-double against Garrett and finished the regular season by turning the trick twice.
Stone is seven points shy of 800 for his career. He has found double figures 37 times in his career and has 22 games with at least 20 points and two 30-point performances.
Prince George's returns to action in the National Junior College Athletic Conference (NJCAA) Division III Region XX semifinals against host and No. 3 seed Westmoreland County. Game time is 4 p.m.
