LARGO, Md. – The Prince George's Community College men's soccer team can now turn its attention to the National Junior College Athletic Conference (NJCAA) Region XX Division III Tournament after closing out the regular season at home on Friday night.
Earlier in the day, the Owls (9-6-1, 6-5-0 Maryland JUCO) found out that they would be the No. 3 seed in the region tournament and will face No. 2 seed, tournament host and defending champion Howard Community College on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in Columbia, Md. Prince George's will be looking for its seventh region crown and first since 2016 when the tournament commences.
Friday night was also a day to honor sophomores David Olabisi (District Heights, Md./DuVal), Moh Sherif (Capital Heights, Md./Central) and Jalen Washington (Washington, D.C./DeMatha), who were playing their final home games in an Owls uniform. Olabisi played two years with Prince George's in 2015 and 2018 while Sherif played in Largo for the last two seasons and Washington is in his only season with the team.
Montgomery College won the match on Friday 1-0, but for Prince George's the key to the contest was no serious injuries and no cards that could play a role in its matchup with Howard in the region tournament.
Aboubacarr Sinera (Lanham, Md./Parkdale) made two saves for the Owls in the loss.
Prince George's had eight shots in the game, but Chris Garcia (Fort Washington, Md./Friendly) gave the squad its best scoring chance when the Raptors netminder had to make a diving save on his shot attempt in the 14th minute.
Thursday's match against Howard marks the second-straight season the two teams will battle in the region semifinals. The winner of the 2:30 p.m. match will face the winner of the No. 1 Anne Arundel Community College/No. 4 Northern Virginia Community College in the championship game on Saturday at 3 p.m.
