John Childers was named head baseball coach of Prince George's Community College in May, 2025.

Prior to Prince George's, Childers was the varsity head coach at La Plata High School from 2012-2025. He played collegiately at Prince George’s Community College for Hall of Fame coach, Bumps Vaughn, before transferring to St. Mary’s College of Maryland where he was an all-conference centerfielder and team captain for the Seahawks from 1992-1994.

Prior to coaching at La Plata, Coach Childers was the pitching coach at St. Mary’s College in 1996, and the hitting/infield coach at Bowie State University in 1997. In 1997, Bowie State won the CIAA Championship and ranked 20th in the nation in batting average and 23rd in the nation in runs scored.

Coach Childers led the La Plata Warriors to three 2A State Championships. In 13 seasons, Coach Childers' overall record was 226-65; his teams won 5 Southern Maryland Athletic Conference championships and 8 regional championships. The Warriors had a 43 game home unbeaten streak that spanned nearly 4 seasons. Over the past 13 seasons, 38 Warriors have moved on to play collegiate baseball, including 5 at the Division 1 level.

In 2020-2021, Coach Childers was named the State of Maryland and Mideast Section Coach of the Year by the National Federation of High Schools.
