Women’s Soccer Earns First Win of the Season - and First in Over a Decade

The Prince George's Community College women's soccer team made history on Tuesday afternoon, earning a 1-0 road victory over Allegany College of Maryland - their first win of the 2025 season and the program's first in more than a decade.

Playing on the road in Cumberland, MD, the Lady Owls battled through a tense, defensive contest before breaking through in the 51st minute. Tiffany Toth (Mount Rainier, MD/Northwestern) delivered the game-winning goal, finishing on an assist from Leyna Martinez (Lanham, MD/DuVal) to put PG ahead.

The defense, anchored by goalkeeper Gift Onunaku (Abuja, Nigeria), held strong throughout the match. Onunaku recorded the clean sheet with a strong performance in goal, delivering 3 saves while earning her first collegiate shutout.

Head Coach Bonnie Hyde, who has been leading the program's resurgence, praised her team's focus and execution in just their second contest of the season.

With the victory, the Lady Owls move to 1-1 on the year and look to set a promising tone for what lies ahead. Prince George's will look to build on their momentum in their next match on Tuesday, September 9, when they travel to face Carroll Community College in a 4 PM matchup.
