Prince George's men's basketball took on Anne Arundel Community College on Saturday evening, December 14th inside Jenkins Gymnasium on Anne Arundel's campus. The Owls entered the contest on a two game winning streak, both of which saw the team score over 100 points in crushing victories. While the Owls didn't quite have an offensive explosion like they had recently become accustomed to, they were able to handle business and left with an 82-70 victory after pulling away in the second half. The win moves the Owls to 8-4 overall including 2-3 in Maryland JUCO play while the Riverhawks fall to 4-6, 0-4.
The Owls battled with Anne Arundel in the first half, with the game neck and neck Prince George's was able to head into halftime with a slim 41-40 lead. Freshman Tervondre Williams led the Owls in scoring at the break with 10 points off the bench. As the score would indicate, both squads were shooting very similarly from the floor with Anne Arundel connecting on 38.9%(14-36) of their shots but it was the Owls who were slightly more efficient with a 41.2%(14-34) success rate from the field.
Sophomore Tunde Scrivner hit two consecutive three pointers to start the second half and energize the Owls to a 47-40 lead. Scrivner would later connect on a layup with 10:23 remaining to give the Owls their largest lead of the game with the score 66-52 which forced the Riverhawks to take a timeout. Anne Arundel regrouped during their break and put the pressure on Prince George's, coming to within 4 points as they closed in with 3:29 remaining to bring the score to 74-70. The last minutes were all Prince George's, as they scored 8 straight points while holding the Riverhawks without a single bucket in route to securing the 82-70 win. Sophomore Tunde Scrivner (21 points, 11 rebounds) finished the game with a double-double and Williams finished second in scoring for the Owls with 16 points. The Owls are now riding a three game winning streak and will return home to Novak Field House to face conference opponent Harford Community College on Wednesday, December 18th.
