Prince George's men's basketball went a combined 1-1 over the weekend after facing Richland College and Cedar Valley College in Dallas, Texas. At the time, the number 5 ranked Owls first faced the number 1 ranked Richland College Thunderducks on Friday afternoon, November 15th and were defeated by a final score of 76-53. The Owls fell to the number 8 spot in NJCAA's Division III Men's Basketball rankings with the loss.
The Owls were able to shoot extremely well from the floor, connecting on nearly 57 percent of their field goal attempts against Richland College, however the Thunderducks were able to create more scoring opportunities. Richland (7-0) was able to continually get to the free throw line after forcing the Owls to commit fouls, connecting on 17 of their 21 attempts from the line which allowed the Thunderducks to build upon their lead to secure a 76-53 victory. The loss was the Owls first of the season, dropping them to 3-1 before their matchup against Cedar Valley College on Sunday, November 17th.
The Owls entered Sunday's game being led by sophomore guard Tunde Scrivner who is averaging 23.6 points a game to go along with 6.6 rebounds per game. The Owls battled with the Suns (4-3), again shooting at a high percentage from the floor to lead Cedar Valley 54-35 at the half. The Suns flipped the script in the second half, placing pressure on the Owls to cut into the lead but Prince George's was able to hang on down the stretch to escape with a 98-93 win to improve to 4-1.The Owls scored 29 of their 98 points from the free throw line in the victory. Sophomore forward Isaiah Miles finished with a double-double while Scrivner poured in 28 points to lead the scoring for the Owls.
Up next for the Owls is an away game at Frederick Community College on Wednesday, November 20th at 7 pm to begin Maryland JUCO conference play.
