Owls Ready to Launch 2026 Season Under First-Year Head Coach John Childers

The 2026 spring season marks the beginning of a new era for Prince George's Community College baseball under first-year head coach John Childers. Although the Owls much anticipated opening weekend series against Bergen Community College was postponed due to lingering field conditions from the major winter storm that swept through the Mid-Atlantic region, the excitement surrounding the program has not slowed. Childers and his team are eager to take the field after a productive eight months since officially taking over in June.

Childers has assembled a 31-man roster that reflects both local pride and broad reach. The Owls feature a strong group of student-athletes with Maryland roots, complemented by players from across the country and even internationally. Six student-athletes return from the 2025 squad, providing valuable experience as the program transitions into a new chapter. The combination of returning players and newcomers has created strong competition throughout preseason workouts and has positioned the team to bring a balanced mix of experience, athleticism, and energy into the spring campaign.

The opening three-game series against Bergen has been condensed into a single-day doubleheader as the Owls head into a 45-game schedule. Prince George's will now officially open the 2026 season on Monday, February 16, with a 2 PM doubleheader against Bergen at neutral site Harford Community College in Bel Air, Maryland.

Childers has put together a challenging schedule that will test his squad throughout the spring. Along with the usual Region 20 opponents from across Maryland and Western Pennsylvania, the Owls will step outside regional play to face USCAA member Penn State Shenango. The schedule also features a March night contest on the road against NCAA opponent Marymount University, offering another opportunity to compete against a four-year program. Prince George's will close out the regular season on May 3 against Region 19 member Lackawanna College.

With a new head coach and a refreshed roster ready to compete through a rigorous schedule, the 2026 season represents a fresh start for Prince George's Community College baseball. The Owls are ready to take the field and begin writing the next chapter under Coach Childers' leadership.
