Owls Swept on the Road by College of Southern Maryland

The Prince George's Community College baseball team dropped both games of a road doubleheader to College of Southern Maryland on Tuesday, March 31st at the Hawks La Plata campus.

In game one, the Owls broke through in the fifth inning, capitalizing on a defensive miscue to score their lone run. However, the Hawks responded in the bottom half, taking control with a three-run frame.

The Owls managed just three runs in the contest, with Darrell Pender Jr., Daryl Nicholas, and Kolten Hogzett each recording one. Despite a solid defensive effort that limited damage from earned runs, the Owls couldn't generate enough offense to keep pace.

On the mound, Akil Barlow Jr. took the loss, allowing three unearned runs over five innings while Garrett Duquette made an appearance in relief.

The second game featured much more offensive production, particularly early. The Hawks struck first with a two-run homer in the opening inning, which the Owls answered in the second. Prince George's plated five runs on six hits, highlighted by Hogzett's two-run homer to take a 5-2 lead.

The Owls lead didn't last long as the Hawks chipped away to tie the game in the fourth inning before taking the lead for good in the fifth on an error. A three-run homer by the Hawks in the sixth proved to be the decisive blow as the contest wrapped up, 9-5.

Despite outhitting Southern Maryland 9-7, defensive miscues proved costly as the Hawks drew eight walks and the Owls committed six errors in the second game alone.

The Owls continue their road stretch for their next outing, an 11 AM doubleheader against Anne Arundel Community College on Friday, April 3rd.
