Owls Split Home Doubleheader with Chesapeake, Snap Skid in Game One

The Prince George's Community College baseball team earned a split in Wednesday's home doubleheader against Chesapeake College, taking game one 7-3 before falling 11-0 in six innings in the second. With the split, the Owls move to 5-10 on the season.

Prince George's opened the day with a strong showing in game one, snapping an eight-game losing streak in the process. The Owls struck first when Yudai Ikushima delivered a sacrifice fly, allowing Darrell Pender Jr. to cross the plate for an early 1-0 lead.

Chesapeake responded and eventually pulled ahead 3-2 in the fifth inning, capitalizing on a passed ball to take the lead. However, the Owls turned the tide in the bottom of the sixth inning. Taking advantage of a pair of Skipjacks errors along with another passed ball, Prince George's erupted for five runs to seize control of the game, 7-3.

Bryan Perez closed the door on the mound, earning the win and striking out two in the final frame to secure the Owl' first victory since February 21st.

In game two, Prince George's looked to carry momentum behind starter Jibril Scott, who was sharp early. Scott held Chesapeake to just one hit over the first two innings before running into trouble in the third, where the Skipjacks pushed across the game's first runs.

Andrew Gurwah entered in relief and worked out of a jam, striking out two batters after catcher Gavin Romanowski threw out a runner attempting to steal second base.

Chesapeake broke the game open in the fourth inning, plating five runs to extend its lead. The Owls were unable to respond offensively, as the Skipjacks kept the bats quiet en route to an 11-0 victory in a game shortened to six innings.

Prince George's will look to build on the game one victory as it prepares for another home doubleheader on Saturday. The Owls are set to face Montgomery College, with first pitch scheduled for 12 PM.
