Hartley Dominant on the Mound as Owls Defeat CCBC Dundalk 5-1
Prince George's Community College baseball delivered a much-needed victory against CCBC Dundalk of Thursday evening, defeating the Lions 5-1 in their first home game in 19 days.
The Owls were powered by a standout showing on the mound from freshman Lyric Hartley, who was nearly untouchable. Hartley tossed seven hitless innings, allowing just one unearned run while striking out six and walking one to earn the win.
Prince George's got on the board early in the second inning when Davyd Gilbert hit a sacrifice fly to bring home the first run on the game. The Owls added three more runs in the third after Kolten Hogzett drove in a run on a groundout before Daryl Nicholas hit a single that added two more to put Prince George's up 4-0.
Dundalk managed to score their lone run without recording a hit against Hartley, but the freshman stayed strong for two more innings before being replaced. Hartley finished the day with 0 hits, 6 strikeouts, and just 1 walk on 0 unearned runs.
Akil Barlow Jr. came out of the bullpen and helped seal the win for the Owls by tossing two scoreless innings, allowing two hits while striking out three and walking one.
Nicholas and Hogzett each had two RBI's to lead Prince George's. Carter Ptak finished 2-of-4 from the plate while Darrell Pender Jr. had three of the Owls four stolen bases on the day.
Prince George's stays in Largo for their next matchup, a 12-noon doubleheader vs. CCBC Catonsville on Saturday, April 11th.
