Owls Begin Season 2-0 In Their Opening Weekend

The Prince George's Community College men's basketball team opened the 2025-26 season in impressive fashion, going 2-0 over the weekend at Novak Field House in the Owls mixer. Prince George's defeated Community Christian (MI) 93-68 on Saturday before edging Middlesex College 72-66 on Sunday.

In Saturday's season opener, the Owls pulled away in the second half after entering halftime tied 34-34. A dominant 32-5 run after the break that stretched over ten minutes of play powered Prince George's to a convincing 93-68 victory. Sophomore Willie Rivera Jr. led all scorers with 21 points, while the Owls shot a sharp 40% (12-for-30) from beyond the arc. Defensively, they held the Lions to just 39% shooting overall and a dismal 10.5% (2-for-19) from three-point range.

The win marked the fourth consecutive season-opening victory under Head Coach Terrell Harris, who's started each campaign with a win since taking over the program prior to the 2022-23 season.

The Owls had a tougher challenge on Sunday against Middlesex College, overcoming a nine-point first-half deficit to rally for a 72-66 win. Prince George's trailed 30-29 entering halftime but once again used a strong second half to seal the victory, outscoring the Colts 43-36 after the break. Mike Osuji and Isaiah Mansaray finished as the Owls leading scorers with 11 apiece while Osuji added 8 rebounds and 2 steals in the win.

Despite some struggles at the free throw line (70.4% on Saturday and 61.5% on Sunday), the Owls defense remained key, limiting opponents to just 35.7% shooting from the field across both games.

Prince George's will look to build on its strong start to the year when they travel to Takoma Park on Wednesday, November 5th to take on Washington Adventist University's JV squad at 7 PM.
