Prince George's Community College men's basketball continued its impressive run on Saturday, knocking off the NJCAA's number 20th ranked Division II program Chesapeake College, 82–76, in front of a packed Novak Field House.
The Owls set the tone early, jumping out to a 9–1 lead and stretching the advantage to as many as 13 points just five and a half minutes into the game. Chesapeake responded with a strong push, eventually tying the contest at 27 with 4:45 remaining in the first half.
Prince George's answered with a 10–2 run to regain control before Chesapeake knocked down a three-pointer on its final possession of the half, trimming the Owls lead to 37–32 at the break.
Sophomore Willie Rivera Jr. led all scorers at halftime with 14 points. Tyler Donald, who earned just his second start in two seasons with the Owls, provided a spark by scoring eight points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting performance in the opening half.
Chesapeake took its first lead of the game at the 18:10 mark of the second half with a three-pointer and pushed the advantage to three moments later. Prince George's quickly responded, rattling off a decisive 12–2 run to reclaim the lead at 51–44.
The Skipjacks stayed within striking distance, cutting the deficit to one as the teams traded baskets down the stretch. Fueled by the energy of the home crowd, the Owls continued to create separation and sealed the six-point victory.
Rivera Jr. finished as the leading scorer on the day with 29 points on a highly efficient 11-of-18 day from the floor. Brazil Hutchinson added 10 points and 2 boards off the bench while Lynn King III matched with 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 2 assists.
Saturday's win marked the sixth straight for Prince George's and the Owls second victory over a nationally ranked opponent this season, following a January win over Raritan Valley. Prince George's improves to 19–4 overall and 8–1 in Region 20 divisional play.
The Owls also closed out the regular season undefeated at home, finishing a perfect 11–0 in Novak Field House. The Owls are now 49-8 at home over the past four years since Head Coach Terrell Harris took over the program ahead of the 2022-23 season. Prince George's now prepares for a five-game road stretch to close out the regular season, beginning with a 7:30 p.m. matchup at Hagerstown Community College on Wednesday, February 11.
