Owls Rally Late, Edge CCBC Dundalk in Overtime Thriller
The Prince George's Community College men's basketball team showed resilience on the road Friday night, December 12th, pulling out a dramatic 76-75 overtime victory over CCBC Dundalk.
Sophomore Willie Rivera Jr. delivered the clutch moment in regulation, drilling a baseline jumper with three seconds remaining to tie the game at 72 and force overtime. From there, the Owls survived a tense and low-scoring five-minute extra period, outscoring the Lions by one to silence the Dundalk home crowd.
The win marked the 10th of the season for Prince George's, improving the Owls to 10-2 overall while handing CCBC Dundalk the loss and dropping them to 7-4. Prince George's also remains unbeaten in NJCAA play, moving to a perfect 10-0 overall, including a 4-0 mark in Region 20 Division II play and 3-0 in Maryland JUCO conference action.
The Owls found themselves down at halftime, trailing 36-29 and falling behind by as many as nine points in the second half. Needing every possession down the stretch, Prince George's chipped away and finally drew even just before the regulation horn sounded on Rivera's game-tying jumper.
Overtime proved to be a defensive battle. Kelly Okoroh, who provided a spark off the bench, scored the only field goal between both teams in overtime. CCBC Dundalk struggled, going 0-for-7 from the floor while hitting 3-of-4 free throws. Prince George's wasn't much more efficient, shooting 1-for-4 from the field and 2-for-4 from the charity stripe. Rivera Jr. knocked down the final free throw of the night, which ultimately was the deciding point after Dundalk's last-second attempt rattled off the front of the rim and Prince George's secured the rebound.
Rivera Jr. led all Owls with 14 points. Okoroh finished with 13 points and 7 rebounds in 28 minutes off the bench, while Paul Vance III added 12 points and 5 rebounds to round out the trio of Owls who finished in double figures.
Prince George's has one game remaining on its 2025 portion of its schedule before the New Year. The Owls return home on Thursday, December 18th to host Harfford Community College in a 7 PM battle of the Owls with an ugly sweater theme to the evening.
