Men’s Basketball Captures Region 20 DII Championship, Advances to the NJCAA National Tournament

Prince George's Community College battled through a tightly contested matchup to claim the NJCAA Region 20 Division II Championship on Saturday, March 7, defeating top-seeded CCBC Dundalk, 74–66, at Chesapeake College.

In a game that lived up to its championship billing, the two teams traded momentum throughout the afternoon. By the final buzzer, the contest featured eight ties and eight lead changes as neither side could gain separation for much of the game.

Prince George's ultimately seized control late in the second half. The Owls used a decisive 12–0 run to break open the game, turning a back-and-forth battle into a 54–45 advantage with 4:19 remaining.

Dundalk refused to go away quietly, trimming the deficit to six points in the closing minutes. However, the Owls stayed composed down the stretch. Clutch free throw shooting from Willie Rivera Jr. helped seal the 74–66 victory and secure the championship.

Rivera Jr., who was named the Region Tournament MVP, delivered a standout performance in the title game with 26 points, seven rebounds, two steals, and two assists. Across the three-day tournament, Rivera Jr. totaled 56 points to help lead the Owls championship run.

Brazil Hutchinson also earned All-Tournament Team honors after an impressive three-game stretch. Hutchinson scored 40 total points while shooting an efficient 61 percent from the field, adding 12 rebounds and 11 assists.

With the victory, Prince George's also secured the NJCAA Mid-Atlantic District Championship, earning an automatic bid to the NJCAA Division II Men's Basketball National Championship in Danville, Illinois. The National Tournament will run from March 16th – 21st.

The Owls will now await the NJCAA Network's National Tournament Selection Show, set for Tuesday, March 10 at 6 PM EST, when their seeding and first-round matchup will be announced as they begin their quest for a National Championship.
