Prince George's Community College women's basketball dropped a 53-46 road matchup at Essex County College on Tuesday afternoon. The Owls showed resilience throughout the contest, overcoming slow stretches with big runs, but ultimately came up short.
After falling behind 21-6 in the opening period, the Owls flipped the momentum in the second quarter, outscoring the Wolverines 15-5 to trim the deficit to just five at halftime. Essex County regained control in the third with a 16-6 advantage, putting the Owls into a double-digit deficit entering the final frame.
Prince George's had its best offensive quarter in the fourth, posting 19 points and making a late push, but could not complete the comeback as Essex County held on for the seven-point victory.
Sophomore Kristin Smith continued her dominant start to the season, recording her third straight double-double with 10 points and an impressive 21 rebounds. Freshman Lailal Bah led the Owls in scoring with 14 points.
Prince George's returns home for their next matchup, preparing to host CCBC Catonsville on Thursday for their conference and region opener.
