Prince George’s Falls to Chesapeake in Double Overtime Thriller

Prince George's Community College women's basketball dropped a heartbreaker to Chesapeake College, 71–66, in double overtime on Saturday, February 7, in a tightly contested matchup that featured eleven ties and six lead changes.

After regulation ended with things tied up, one overtime period wasn't enough to decide a winner. The teams traded baskets in the first extra frame, playing to an 8–8 tie to force a second overtime. Chesapeake ultimately pulled away in the final five minutes, outscoring the Owls 8–3 to secure the win.

Sophomore Kaliyah Gaynor turned in her best performance in an Owl uniform, pouring in a game-high 28 points. Gaynor delivered a clutch go-ahead basket with under 30 seconds remaining in regulation to give Prince George's a 55–53 lead, and she followed with six points in the first overtime to help extend the game.

With the score tied at 63 late in the first overtime, Gaynor attacked the basket and got a clean look at a potential game-winning layup, but the attempt came up just short, sending the contest to a second overtime.

In the final period, the Owls struggled to generate offense, failing to record a field goal while committing five turnovers, allowing Chesapeake to seal the five-point victory.

The loss drops Prince George's to 7–12 overall and 4–5 in NJCAA Region 20 Division II play. The Owls currently sit ninth in the standings, just outside postseason qualification for the eight-team regional tournament. They still control their chances at a postseason spot with 5 divisional games remaining, all of which are on the road. Up first is a 5:30 PM tilt with Hagerstown on Wednesday, February 11th.
