The Prince George's Community College women's basketball team closed out the 2025 calendar year with a heartbreaking 59-58 loss to Harford Community College on Thursday night inside Novak Field House.
The Owls faced an early deficit, trailing by as many as 11 late in the first half before Kaliyah Gaynor buried a deep three-pointer at the buzzer to cut the margin to 31-23 at halftime. Prince George's carried that momentum into the third quarter, erupting for 20 points while knocking down four three-pointers on eight attempts. Harford kept pace with 18 points of their own, maintaining a 49-43 edge heading into the final period.
Prince George's clawed back to within one midway through the fourth quarter, and Kristin Smith tied the game at 53 with a free throw at the 4:20 mark. Less than a minute later, Aaliyah Membrino gave the Owls a 55-53 lead with an offensive rebound and putback layup. Harford responded with four straight points to regain the lead, but Membrino answered again, finishing though contact to tie the game at 57. The ensuing free throw was missed, and after a defensive stop, the Owls had possession with a chance to win.
A late turnover forced Prince George's to foul in transition, sending Harford to the free-throw line with under a second remaining. Harford converted one of two, sealing a narrow 58-57 defeat for the Owls.
The loss drops Prince George's to 3-6 heading into winter break. The Owls return to action in 2026 when they travel to Monroe University on Saturday, January 3rd.
Membrino led Prince George's with a dominant double-double, recording 16 points and 17 rebounds. Smith added 15 points and 7 rebounds, snapping her streak of eight consecutive double-doubles – her first game this season without one.
