Women’s Basketball Stumbles on the Road vs. WVU Potomac State

The Prince George's Community College women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought road contest to WVU Potomac State College on Saturday, February 14, falling by a final score of 63-56. A slow second quarter proved costly for the Lady Owls, as they were held to just six points in the frame while the Catamounts built a 24-18 advantage heading into halftime.

Prince George's came out of the break with renewed energy, delivering its strongest quarter of the afternoon. The Owls outscored Potomac State 21-19 in the third to trim the deficit to 43-39 and remain within striking distance. During the run, Kaliyah Gaynor knocked down a key three-pointer to cut the margin to just three points, igniting the Prince George's bench. Despite the push, the Owls were unable to close the gap further down the stretch as Potomac State held on for the seven-point victory.

Gaynor led the way with an impressive double-double, finishing with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Kristin Smith added 12 points, while Aaliyah Membrino chipped in 10 points and five rebounds in the loss.

With the defeat, Prince George's moves to 8-13 overall and 5-6 in Region 20 Division II play. The Lady Owls currently sit ninth in the standings, just outside the eight-team regional tournament field. Prince George's will look to bounce back on Wednesday with another road test against College of Southern Maryland at 5 p.m. Southern Maryland enters the matchup ranked 11th in the region with an identical 5-6 record in divisional play, setting up a key late-season showdown.
