Lady Owls Stumble Against #6 CCBC Essex

The Prince George's Community College women's basketball team dropped its home matchup Wednesday night against NJCAA Division II #6 ranked CCBC Essex, 103-63.

The Owls battled early, overcoming a quick 10-3 deficit to close the first quarter within three points at 20-17. They continued to hang tough in the second quarter, keeping the Knights to 20 points once again before heading into halftime down 40-28.

Essex broke the game open in the third, putting up 37 points and creating separation the Owls were unable to recover from. The Knights maintained control through the final horn, handing Prince George's the loss.

Despite the defeat, the Owls saw big performances from Kristin Smith and Kaliyah Gaynor, who both recorded double-doubles. Smith finished with 17 points and 17 rebounds, while Gaynor added 17 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Rebecca Wright contributed 12 points, marking her highest-scoring game of the season.

The Lady Owls now get a short break before heading to Western Pennsylvania for a pair of Region 20 Division II road games. They'll face Community College of Beaver County on Saturday, followed by Westmoreland County on Sunday.
