Owls Erase 12-Point Deficit, Earn Crucial Region Road Win

Prince George's Community College women's basketball delivered a fourth-quarter comeback Wednesday night, defeating the College of Southern Maryland, 66-62 on the road.

Trailing by as many as 12 points late in the third quarter, Prince George's closed the period on an 8-0 run to cut the deficit to four heading into the final frame, seizing momentum down the stretch.

With 6:48 remaining in regulation, Monae Herman knocked down a jumper to tie the game at 52-52. After a defensive stop on the ensuing possession, Lailah Bah converted on the offensive end to give the Owls a 54-52 advantage. Rebecca Wright later connected on Prince George's only three-pointer of the night, extending the lead to 57-54.

Southern Maryland responded and trimmed the deficit to just one, 63-62, in the closing minutes. However, Kaliyah Gaynor sank a pair of free throws to push the Owls' lead back to three. Gaynor finished the day 18-of-20 from the line. The Hawks potential game-tying three-point attempt with 10 seconds left fell short, and Bah secured the rebound to seal the victory.

Gaynor led all scorers with 26 points while adding 9 rebounds in a dominant performance. Herman contributed 11 points, and Kristin Smith anchored the paint with 8 points and a team-high 11 rebounds.

The win improves the Owls to 9-13 overall and 6-6 in Region 20 Division II play. Prince George's currently sits in eighth place - the final qualifying spot for the Region 20 tournament with two divisional games remaining.

The Owls will return to action Saturday with a noon matchup on the road against Frederick Community College.
