Prince George's Community College women's basketball fell in its Region 20 and Maryland JUCO conference opener Thursday night, dropping a 66-56 home matchup to CCBC Catonsville.
The Owls stayed within striking distance throughout the first half and trailed just 30-26 at the break. Prince George's found momentum in the third quarter as they locked down defensively and held the Cardinals to just eight points to take a 39-38 lead into the final frame.
Catonsville responded with a strong fourth quarter, shooting 55 percent from the field and posting 28 points to pull away late and hand the Owls a 10-point loss.
Kaliyah Gaynor led Prince George's once again with 14 points and 6 rebounds. Sophomore Kristin Smith had her fourth straight double-double performance, recording a double-double with 11 points and a career-high 22 rebounds, nearly half of the Owls total boards on the night. Newcomer Rebecca Wright also reached double figures with 11 points.
The Owls return to action on Tuesday, November 25th, traveling to Baltimore City for a 5 PM tip-off before the Thanksgiving break.
