The Prince George's Community College women's basketball team returned from a two-game slate through Western Pennsylvania with a weekend split, falling to Community College of Beaver County on Saturday, 77-68, before bouncing back with a dominant 69-39 win over Westmoreland County on Sunday.
On Saturday, the Owls battled the Titans to a 32-32 tie at halftime but struggled to match CCBC's offensive push in the third quarter. Beaver County scored 26 points compared to just 16 for the Owls, creating a double-digit gap that proved too large to overcome. Despite a stronger fourth quarter from the Owls, the titans were able to maintain their lead and hand the Owls the loss.
Sophomore Kaliyah Gaynor paced all scorers with 26 points and added 8 rebounds. Freshman Lailah Bah provided a big spark off the bench, posting 17 points and connecting on four three-pointers. Kristin Smith recorded another double-double with 11 points, 14 rebounds, and 5 assists.
The Owls responded in a big way on Sunday, locking down Westmoreland in a 69-39 victory. Despite shooting just 27.2% (25-92) from the floor, Prince George's held the Wolfpack in check defensively, holding them to a cold 17.9% (15-84) shooting performance.
Smith delivered a career outing, scoring a personal-best 30 points while securing her eight straight double-double to open the season with 14 rebounds and 6 steals. Bah earned her first collegiate double-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds, 5 steals, and 4 assists.
The 1-1 weekend brings Prince George's to 3-5 overall. They'll now enjoy an extended break before returning to action against Harford Community College in Novak Field House on December 18th at 5 PM.
